~Sweet Treats~

I've share with Hannah today that from now on, never again will we call any kind of junk food a treat. It's the furthest thing from a treat for the body! A treat is now berries, a kiwi, grapes or a mango! A treat is something wonderfully sweet that God made! Junk food in our culture is such a symbol of 'love', like big home cooked meals.

When Hannah went to the waterslide park yesterday, she was sent with a cooler full of tons of fruits & veggies & dip, & lots of water. Her friend wanted everything she had, kept wanting to trade lunches (behind her mom's back), & when she'd tell her mom she was hungry, she'd get offered ice cream, cheeze puffs, cotton candy (after lunch, I'm assuming...) or pop!

Hannah was appalled....even when she has had junk food, it's in very small quantities, for the most part, & knows how horrible she's felt afterwards when she's overdone it...she wondered how her friend was so happy & not feeling sick all the time & realized she's just gotten used to feeling less than fully nourished & healthy. I told her by the time most people who eat that was reach 35 or so, it definately catches up to them.

It was so good to see Hannah realizing that, out of my love for her, i sent along real food, & that her friend's weight problem is clearly connected to her snacking choices. Of course i was clear that obviously her friend's mom loves her, but just doesn't know better, or has other reasons for giving her child junk food.

I know for myself, she's only been exposed to it as she's gotten older, through my wanting, buying & eating it. Boy, do i regret that now. As she's approaching puberty, i know it's more important than ever to feed her the healthiest i can!

She's (self-consciously) carrying a few spare pounds right now, but i know by the end of the summer that'll change, as it is for me. I love how, once we get back to only real foods, after just a few days, she really notices how her body feels so much better on real food! That helps me know she'll eat healthy all her life, even if not 100%raw.

Hannah Banana - you're learning! I'm glad you're realizing how much better you feel on raw food and also how much other people crave real food too - even when they're offered junk by their well meaning parents.

Love you both - keep up the great eating!
